To me one of the best things in life is combining traveling with painting on location. I can’t wait to capture the next cityscape or the next quiet park scene. Changing light, challenging weather and hungry bugs are more than compensated by the joy of observing a new scene with great attention and trying to capture its essence in limited time. The immersion in the moment is complete.
Nighttime in Edinburgh during Christmas is an enchanting sight. The wonderfully decorated storefronts are warm and welcoming. The lights shimmer and reflect off the wet cobbled stones and illuminate the historic architecture. As I was painting these scenes late into the night the lights would gradually turn off keeping me on my toes.
Strolling through Princes Street Gardens, one is captivated by the iconic Edinburgh Wheel against the glittering holiday decorations and the night sky. The colors on the wheel change continuously. I memorized one of the patterns to paint it.
