i find painting people most meaningful and rewarding pursuit. Every figurative painting is a challenge, a search to capture the essence of a person, a connection to a fleeting moment.
In the middle of a grey December day I was walking through St James Park in London and was treated to the most unexpected sight. A number of vibrant green parrots were fluttering among more pedestrian birds of many kinds. A man with a bag of birdseed had a handful of seeds in his outstretched palm. One by one , the small green birds landed on his hand. The studio painting is a testament of this fleeting encounter and a joyous connection between man and nature.
Portraits
Commissions
Portrait commissions serve as reminders of cherished relationships, memories, and milestones in life. I like to approach my commission work by spending time and observing the sitter, taking photos and thinking about composition and mood to capture. For the painting below I first created pencil sketches, then small color studies before moving on to the actual portrait.
